Thumbnail credits are one of Subscribr's three kinds of credits. They are separate from your script credits and your video credits.
Monthly Generations Included in Plans
Every paid plan includes thumbnail generations each month at no extra cost. Growth includes the fewest and Max the most — see the pricing page for the current numbers, and your billing page for what your own plan gives you.
The free plan includes no thumbnail generations. Thumbnails are something Subscribr generates for you, so they need a paid plan.
Your included generations reset at the start of each billing cycle. They do not accumulate.
Separate from Script and Video Credits
The three balances are tracked independently. Using a thumbnail generation does not reduce your script credits or your video credits, and neither of those reduces your thumbnails.
Understanding Your Usage Counter
Your current remaining generations are displayed in the top-right corner of Thumbnail Studio, and the New thumbnail panel shows what a run will cost before you start it. This shows the total across all pools (monthly allowance and packs).
You can also view a detailed breakdown on your billing usage page, which shows:
- Included each month -- How many free generations you have used and how many remain.
- Packs you bought -- Any purchased thumbnail packs and their remaining generations.
Thumbnail Packs
Need more generations beyond your monthly allowance? Purchase one-time thumbnail packs from your billing settings.
Packs come in several sizes, and larger packs cost less per generation. Your billing page lists the current sizes and prices. Packs are a good choice when you need a burst of extra capacity without committing to a recurring subscription.
How Packs Work
- Generations from packs are added to your pack balance immediately after purchase.
- Your monthly free allowance is used first. Subscribr only draws from your pack balance after the monthly allowance is exhausted.
- Pack generations remain available as long as your subscription is active. They do not expire monthly.
Buy When You Need Them
Packs are one-time purchases with no recurring commitment. Buy them when you have a batch of videos to create thumbnails for, or when you want extra buffer heading into a busy content period.
What Counts as a Generation
Understanding what uses your quota helps you plan effectively:

What Is Free
- Importing thumbnails onto your board (your own, a competitor's, another channel's, or Viral formats).
- Uploading your own images.
- Adding and editing text overlays.
- Duplicating, moving, and organizing board items.
- Merging text into the image to export a finished thumbnail.
- Assigning a thumbnail to a project.
What Happens When You Run Out
When your generation quota reaches zero, clicking Generate does not spend a credit. Instead:
- A message tells you that you are out of thumbnail credits (or, on the free plan, that thumbnail credits come with a plan).
- A link directs you to your billing settings where you can purchase packs or upgrade your plan.
You can still:
- Browse, merge, and download existing thumbnails on your board.
- Add and edit text overlays.
- Import references and organize your board (ready for when you have quota again).
- Configure thumbnail settings.
Your monthly allowance resets automatically at the start of your next billing cycle.
