No. Connecting an agent works on every plan, including the free workspace — the one-line setup, the directories, the MCP server, and the API alike. What costs is the work itself — generations spend credits, and some research depends on your plan. A 402 means out of credits and a 403 on one feature means not on this plan; neither means your credential is wrong.
If you already work with an agent that can run commands, paste the one line — it is the fastest and your agent handles the setup. If you work in Claude, add it from the directory instead; there is nothing to copy at all. Use the MCP endpoint when your client takes a custom endpoint and is not in a directory yet.
